Anna Payton Davis of Sardis and Clayton Alden Butler of Clarksdale were united in marriage at half past six in the evening on Saturday, January 15, 2022 at Clarksdale United Methodist Church in Clarksdale.

The ceremony was officiated by Dr. Paul Middleton and Rev. Neville Vanderburg.

The bride is the daughter of Mr. William Newton “Newt” Davis, Jr. and Mrs. Sherry Melissa Davis of Sardis.

Her grandparents are Ms. Anne Johnston Davis and the late Mr. William Newton “Bill” Davis, Sr. of Como and the late Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Edlin of Senatobia.

The groom is the son of Ms. Toby Torti Butler and the late Lawrence Edward Butler, Jr. of Clarksdale.

He is the grandson of the late Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Butler of Clarksdale and the late Mr. Joseph Torti and the late Mary Katherine Torti of Clarksdale.

Within the Wedding Party, those standing with the bride included Bayli Turner as Matron of Honor and Amy Koury as Maid of Honor.

Bridesmaids were Victoria Byrd, Emma Laird, Haley Moore, Kaylan Myers, Sara Qualls, Makayla Sawyers, Lindsey Simmerman, Mary Anna Tucker, Mary Margaret Vollmar, Maddison Welch.

On the groom’s side, Geoffrey West was the best man.

Groomsmen included Brett Ashmore, Travis Beam, George Bouler, Tyler Clark, Shawn Davis, Will Davis, Jason Matthews, Joseph Nguyen, Kennith Scott, Austin Strider, and Spencer Turner.

The flower girls were Huntley Macaw and Liza Clay Moore and the ring bearer was Bodhi Johnson.

Escorted by her father and given in marriage by her parents, the bride wore a beautiful dress with a cathedral veil and detachable train from Low’s Bridal and Formal of Brinkley, Ark.

The bridesmaids wore black velvet dresses from Azazie and the groom and groomsmen wore black suits from Men’s Warehouse.

The groom and groomsmen stayed in the Traveler’s Hotel in Clarksdale, while the bride and bridesmaids stayed at the Chateau Debris next to the church.

Olivia Pollan and Hillary Ross of Changes Salon in Grenada spent the morning with the bride and bridal party for hair and makeup.

Anna Payton’s bouquet and other flower arrangements were created by Craig Gaddy of Gaddy Designs in Marks.

Latham Stevens was the wedding planner and coordinator. Invitations and wedding programs were supplied by Copytime Clarksdale. Thankfully Taken photographed the special day and Lynn Productions provided videography.

Ceremony music was performed by the Rivendell String Quartet of Memphis.

Following the ceremony, a reception took place at the Cutrer Mansion in Clarksdale, where the couple was engaged in January of 2021. Details Specialty Rentals of Oxford decorated the room with elegance. Catering was provided by Chris Green of The Ranchero in Clarksdale, and the bride and groom’s cakes were created by Alice Chow Cakes of Clarksdale.

Reception music was by Style Entertainment DJ services and bartending services were by LH White Bartending. After a fun-filled evening, family and friends gathered outside to send-off the couple with sparklers.

The couple’s send-off car was a hearse provided by Merideth-Nowell Funeral Home in Clarksdale, with the words, “’til death do us part” on the back, since the bride’s profession is funeral service.

The newly wedded Butlers traveled to Punta Cana, Dominican Republic for their honeymoon.

Prior to the wedding, the bride’s family hosted a bridesmaid luncheon at the Heflin House in Sardis with the Heflin Ladies providing food. On the eve of their wedding, the groom’s mother and family honored the couple with a rehearsal dinner at The Bank in Clarksdale.

The couple are at home in Sardis, Mississippi, where Anna Payton is a Funeral Director at Coleman Funeral Home in Olive Branch and Clay works as a Registered Nurse in Clarksdale.
