Bhalachandra Sankashti Chaturthi 2022 Chandrodaya timings

The vrat observed on Chaturthi, Krishna Paksha (fourth day during the waning phase of the Moon), is dedicated to Lord Ganesha and is called Sankashti or Sankat Hara Chaturthi. Sankashti means deliverance from trouble, while Sankat Hara means ‘removal of hurdles’. Hence, on Sankashti Chaturthi day, devotees fast from sunrise to moonrise and pray to Lord Ganesha (hailed as the remover of obstacle) for a hurdle/trouble-free life.

On Bhalachandra Sankashti Chaturthi (Phalguna, Krishna Paksha as per the Amavasyant calendar) or Chaitra, Krishna Paksha as per the Purnimant calendar, devotees worship the Bhalachandra Maha Ganapati form of Lord Ganesha and the Agama Peetha.

And today, devotees observing the Sankashti vrat shall break their fast only after sighting the Moon. Therefore scroll down to know the Chandrodaya time in your city.

Bhalachandra Sankashti Chaturthi Vrat Katha

According to a legend, Lord Vishnu invited all the Gods and the Goddesses, except Lord Ganesha, to his wedding ceremony. However, as guests started getting ready to reach the wedding venue, they wondered why Ganesha was missing. However, Lord Vishnu, who had already invited Ganesha’s parents, Lord Shiva and Parvati, felt it was pointless to send a separate invite to Lord Ganesha. Moreover, he did not appreciate Lord Ganesha’s enormous appetite and thought it wasn’t right to overeat.

Therefore, after knowing why Lord Vishnu wasn’t keen to invite Lord Ganesha, the guests suggested that Lord Ganesha must be asked to look after his abode as a Dwarapala (gatekeeper).

Subsequently, Lord Ganesha agreed to sit outside as a gatekeeper. However, Devarshi Narada arrived a while later and wondered why Lord Ganesha was sitting outside the house. Therefore, Sage Narada asked Lord Ganesha to send his Mooshak army to dig huge holes in the ground.

Lord Ganesha grabbed the idea, and he sent his mooshak to stop the guests from reaching the venue. Thus, the wheels of the chariots got stuck to the ground, and the guests struggled to move forward. In the end, everyone admitted that they mustn’t have insulted Lord Ganesha. Hence, Lord Shiva sent Nandi to invite Lord Ganesha. And with his blessings, the path got cleared of all the holes. Therefore, Lord Ganesha is worshipped to clear hurdles from life.
