A video where a bride’s bouquet caught fire has gone viral on the social media platform TikTok.

In the viral clip, shared on October 30 by TikTok user niagogava, a bride could be seen walking past some pyrotechnics on the floor as family and friends watched.

A spark from the indoor pyrotechnics appeared to land on the flowers, causing the bouquet to quickly burst into flames.

The bride, visibly stunned by how quickly the bouquet was engulfed in flames, started rapidly shaking it before a man grabbed it and threw it to the floor. Despite the drama, the bride still seemed to be in good spirits.

According to the American Burn Association, nearly 450,000 people suffer burn injuries in America every year that are severe enough that they require medical care. Approximately 3,500 adults and children also suffer fatal burns in accidents and fires each year.

While pyrotechnics can appear to be pretty additions to celebrations, wedding expert and Hitched.co.uk editor Zoe Burke told Newsweek safety was the highest priority.

She said: “Having any form of pyrotechnics at your wedding will come with a risk, so you need to make sure your wedding supplier is fully trained and that your wedding venue can brief everyone on the safety procedures.

“It’s really lovely to have photos with sparklers or even indoor displays like the one in the video, but safety has to be your highest priority—make sure you’re able to keep a safe distance.

“Whoever is setting up, if it’s the venue, the photographer, the supplier you’ve ordered the display from, they should contribute to creating a safe environment for you and your guests.

“This bride was really lucky that it was only her bouquet that went up in flames—thanks to a fast-acting guest. Remember, whilst you want to have special moments on your wedding day and amazing photos, nothing is worth risking your safety for.

“Hire professionals, follow their advice, and make sure you know the safety protocols for your venue.”

The shocking video quickly went viral online and, at time of writing, had more than 5.3 million views and an estimated 700,100 likes.

Many of those who commented on the video were stunned by what they had just seen and praised how the situation was handled.

Commenter helen_chondrou said: “It looks like the scene out of Hunger Games where the dress changes after catching fire.”

Rafaella Harris posted: “Guess she won’t be throwing the bouquet for the next in line to catch.”

Nadine Snell added: “It kind of flamed up pretty cool. I hope there was a photographer who got that shot.”
