People who attended a wedding in Naujaat on Monday may have been exposed to COVID-19, Nunavut’s Health Department is warning.
The notice of exposure was posted on social media on Friday and is the first notice the government has issued for a private event like this during the Omicron wave of the pandemic.
Anyone who attended a wedding ceremony at Glad Tidings Church or the reception at the Tusarvik Elementary School gym on Monday need to monitor for symptoms until Feb. 24.
The notice does not say how many people attended the wedding.
Public health restrictions in place on the day of the wedding allowed for 25 people to gather in venues like the gym, or 25 per cent capacity, whichever is lower.
For the church, 50 people would have been allowed to gather, or 25 per cent capacity, with no singing allowed.
If anyone who attended develops symptoms, the department is advising people to isolate immediately, call the COVID-19 hotline, and not go to the local health centre.
On Friday, five cases of COVID-19 were reported in Naujaat, up one from Thursday’s count.
Across Nunavut, there were 412 active cases across 19 communities.
In total, there have been 1,305 recovered COVID-19 cases, 22 hospitalizations and one death since this wave of the virus.
