Death in Paradise teases new romance after Florence exit

Death in Paradise spoilers follow.

Death in Paradise planted the seeds for a new romance in tonight’s episode (February 11), after a team shake-up saw Darlene Curtis (Ginny Holder) return to the show.

We last saw Darlene in season seven when she was a love interest for Dwayne Myers (Danny John-Jules), until she returned in last week’s episode and promptly joined the core team as a civilian liaison.

And since it was Commissioner Selwyn Patterson (Don Warrington) who recruited her, this week saw him thrust together with Darlene on their own mission, which eventually led them back to the main mystery.

While the two went to help a wedding planner get his table decorations back on track, they had some time to bond. After Darlene asked why he had decided to come along with her, he said: “This is a new role for you, I’m keen to help out in any way I can.”

And in a sweet moment between the two where Darlene wondered why “he is so keen” for her to do well in her new role, he simply replied: “Because you care. You care about people…”

There were also some soulful and slightly cheeky gazes between the two throughout the episode, which fans certainly picked up on. And is it any coincidence when you put a flustered Commissioner, a wedding planner and Darlene in the same scene?

The last hints of romance we saw on the show were between DS Florence Cassell (Joséphine Jobert) and DI Neville Parker (Ralf Little). But it was doomed from the beginning after Florence gently let Neville down once he confessed his feelings, followed by her dramatic exit from the island.

Maybe it’s time we saw some reciprocated love in Saint Marie.
