MEERUT: Life turned completely upside down for Urvashi, 25, who had applied ‘mehndi’ in her hands and was looking forward to a happy married life when news came of the death of her would-be groom, Anuj Kumar Singh on Sunday.
Singh, 28, a constable with Delhi Police, was preparing to leave for the wedding venue at Loni in Ghaziabad when a mishap happened that cost him his life.
Providing details, an inconsolable Ravindra Singh, the cop’s father, told TOI that his son got a call in the middle of wedding rituals and he went up to the terrace to take it.
“Anuj slipped and fell while speaking on the phone and died before he could be taken to hospital,” he said, adding, “We found him lying in a pool of blood in the backyard.” “My son had a bright future ahead of him. He was posted in Delhi traffic police after passing the exam in 2012. We were all so happy that he was getting married but our hopes are now shattered.”
Sushil Kumar Singh, Anuj’s uncle, said that this was the first wedding in their family after many years. “It will take a long time for us to come to terms with this huge tragedy,” he said. Circle officer (CO) Budhana, Vinay Kumar, said, “As per the autopsy report, there were multiple fractures on the body, which caused the death. We are investigating further details.”
