SHELBYVILLE — A special flower girl helped make a recent wedding very memorable.

On March 18, Reed and Katherine Best were wed in Shelbyville. Making their walk down the aisle unique was Nelrose Shive, their flower girl. Or, as they called her, their “flower granny.”

Shive, of Wood River, is 92. Reed Best is her grandson.

The couple wanted to keep the wedding small, but definitely wanted Shive involved.

“They asked me if I could be the flower girl and I told them, ‘I’d be honored,'” Shive said. “I’m the only grandparent that both of them have.”

Reed Best’s father, Darrell, officiated at the service. Originally from Alton, Darrell and Lisa Best own the Best Wedding Chapel in Shelbyville and Red Hot Weddings, a mobile chapel operated out of a 1942 American LaFrance firetruck.

“We didn’t belong to a church when we got married and my uncle had to marry us,” Lisa Best told The Telegraph in 2020. “We realized that there was this niche for people like us.”
