Kathy Poirier, 55, who suffers from ALS, and her son went viral after the wonderful video was shared by many.

Kathy is suffering from ALS, often known as Lou Gehrig’s illness, for more than three years. According to Johns Hopkins Medicine, ALS is a neurological system illness that causes muscle weakness that affects up to 30,000 people in the United States, with 5,000 new cases identified each year. Zak’s younger brothers, Nick and Jake, supported their mother in getting up and dancing with her oldest during his wedding to his lifelong love, Anja D’adesky, on Saturday, April 9. According to Fox News Digital, the groom and his mother danced to Tim McGraw’s ‘Humble and Kind’ in front of roughly 130 guests at Ever After Farms Blueberry Wedding Barn in Mims, Florida. A user wrote responded to the video and wrote, “Oh no…. I’m in puddles!!! This is such a beautiful moment. This is why we do what we do! Love you Dani!” Another one commented, “Mannnn😢 this amazing. The moments we live for!! Hire a wedding videographer!” “You can see in your moms eyes how she is thanking you❤️” a user commented.

Addressing the video, Zak told Fox News Digital, “We had planned it. The actual dance itself was spontaneous.” “We were both pretty adamant that we wanted to share a dance regardless of how long it was. By the time we got up there, we weren’t really sure how it would work — but it went perfectly, and it was great.”

Mom Kathy, on the other hand, was flattered that her son wanted to dance with her at his ceremony, but she was still anxious. “I was very nervous,” she told Fox News Digital. “I was not nervous about dancing with my son. And I was not nervous about my other two sons holding me up or getting me up. That wasn’t what bothered me.” “It’s that this was such a milestone in one of my kids’ lives, and it wasn’t what I had envisioned,” she continued. “It was really emotional to have to accept the fact that I can’t stand or use my hands. And that people would be watching me. And I felt like I was going to be judged. But I knew I wanted to do it, and I wasn’t going to let anybody tell me I couldn’t.”

She added that when she started dancing with her son, “all of her nerves vanished” and she “felt at peace”. Zak, on the other hand, said he felt at ease and everything became a blur because he was so focused on the moment with his mother. “It was definitely a different feeling,” he stated.

“With a diagnosis of ALS, it’s got nothing but grave news attached to it,” Kathy added. “But to be in the arms of all three of my sons was just beautiful. It just made me feel strong.”

Kathy is pleased that their viral videos have contributed to ALS awareness. “This disease — it’s been over 80 years since Lou Gehrig was diagnosed and there’s still no cure,” she said. “And doctors will tell you that you have three to five years to live. Don’t ever believe that. Because you can fight it.” She continued, “I think when you put your mind to it, you can overcome any obstacle in your way.”
