When tying the knot, everyone has their own views regarding what they want. In India, the wedding ceremony is packed with ceremonies. Desis, after all, are famous for their overwhelming excitement at “big fat Indian wedding” celebrations.

But several things have changed over the years. The contemporary bride may choose which wedding traditions she wants to include and which she doesn’t.

A bride in UP allegedly called off her wedding after the groom kissed her in front of 300 guests.

A Twitter user shared her tale of a wedding without a “kanyadaan” similarly—hinting at no transfer of a girl from one ancestry to another.ˀ

“My mom and dad refused to do all the BS. The collective meltdown of the rest of the Marwaris has been gorgeous to witness,” she wrote.

She further lauded her husband, stating that when their pandit ji questioned why not to do it, he just advised him to listen to us. Read her tweet here.

The tweet has gone viral. Even though people were quick to point out negative points, many people supported the woman for following what she truly wanted to do.

One netizen wrote, “Good job. Hats off to you, your hubby, and your family. Congratulations! I would have loved to see those marwaris going into deep anxiety,” wrote a Twitter user.

Another person wrote, “I wish this was more and more normalised. It’s insulting and disrespectful to any self-respecting woman. Such practices.”

One Twitter user wrote, “Glad you went for what made you both comfortable! Traditional, modern, hybrid, none – it doesn’t matter. What matters is the shared values, trust and togetherness you will carry on with.”

Meanwhile, a popular video previously featured a woman discussing marital customs, but with a catch.

She went into great length describing the adjustments she’d made to her wedding ceremony

The woman described how she was not a “typical” bride and worked in gender. Which is why she had a problem with kanyadaan, maang bharna, and mangalsutra.

“So mangalsutra is something that I have got off the table, but sindoor is something that has to be put,” she said.

The bride then describes how the couple has decided to apply sindoor on the bride and the groom.
