New wedding venue opens in Washington

Washington Acres is a home filled with love. The home, located on Cox Road in Washington has opened as a new wedding venue option for couples looking to tie the knot.

Homeowner, Doug Kaufman, made an announcement on Monday, Nov. 7 that his home is now a wedding venue and event space called Washington Acres. The home is approximately 6,400 sq. ft. and comes with 32 acres with about six acres cleared and flat. There is a red barn that is for outdoor photos only.

Kaufman said he fell in love with the property because it “feels very centering and wonderful.” He made the purchase in August 2019.

“The place just seems like it was made for weddings,” Kaufman said, sharing his rationale for why he started Washington Acres. “I think the place is so great, maybe others would find it great too. If people felt like it was something that would help them make their wedding day even more special, why shouldn’t we give it a shot.”

Those looking to rent Washington Acres can either rent the space for the day or a wedding party can stay at the property from Friday to Sunday. All event activities must happen outside the home.

A feature that Kaufman loves about the home is the craftsmanship that went into building the office space and entertaining areas. A family member of the previous owner added dark mahogany to the walls in the office with trim, in the kitchen and to the bar in the family room.

“A lot of love went into not just building the house but making sure it had a certain look and feel,” Kaufman said.

Kaufman does not live at Washington Acres full-time, but is there some weekends. He actually lives in the Raleigh area where he works as a tech entrepreneur. His latest project is called “Belongly.” It’s a resource mental health professionals can use to manage and grow their practice and network with each other. He initially purchased the home, because he wanted the property as a retreat from the hustle and bustle of the Raleigh area.

Originally from Washington D.C. he did not know Washington, North Carolina existed until he started looking for property. He found the property first, then started learning about Washington.
