No. 34 Garden & Grill opens today (3 March) in the former Racehorse pub on Stratford Road.

Described as a ‘botanical dining destination’, the restaurant serves a menu that is half plant-based and vegetarian, with the other half celebrating British farming and sustainable fishing. Dishes from the grill menu include grilled mackerel with roasted beets and horseradish; chargrilled bacon chop with pineapple and chilli; and roasted rump of Devonshire lamb with pomme Anna sprouting broccoli and romesco sauce as well a selection of steaks.

Dishes from the garden menu include pea and mint fritters with saffron aioli; aubergine schnitzel; and grilled halloumi with harissa spiced couscous.

Owners Jonathan Carter-Morris and Marc Hornby also run catering business Caviar & Chips and Shropshire-based boutique wedding venue Stockton House. Carter-Morris has experience of operating in Warwick having previously run The Rose and Crown in the town centre.

“The Racehorse was a bit of an institution in Warwick, but it’s time for its next chapter. We want to see it take on a new life as both a destination dining venue and community pub, bar and restaurant that caters for everyone,” says Hornby.

“Its name gives a nod to its location in Warwick – at number 34 Stratford Road and in the postcode of CV34 – but it also reflects what we’re offering. We’ll have two menus, one from the garden and one from the grill, offering both plant-based and vegan dishes alongside a celebration of great British farming and quality, local produce.
