5 Duke of Cornwall Dr. Markham ON [email protected]

Orchids that featured in the Queen’s wedding bouquet will be included among the flowers for the Duke’s service, in a sentimental touch amid arrangements in patriotic red, white and blue.

The white dendrobium orchids will be included in smaller posies of flowers at Westminster Abbey, as a mark of the Duke’s lifelong devotion to the Queen.

The spiky blue flowers of eryngium, known as sea holly, will represent his naval career and lifelong affection for the sea, in larger floral arrangements that have been thought through in meticulous detail.

All flowers will be in shades of red, white and blue, in a testament to the Duke’s devotion to his country.

The larger floral arrangements will feature red roses, carnations and gerbera, as well as white roses, eustoma and large white chrysanthemums.

Blue tones will come in the shape of agapanthus, delphinium and eryngium.

The smaller posies will feature red freesias, alstroemeria and spray roses, white dendrobium orchids, freesias and Eustoma, along with blue iris and eryngium.

Queen personally requested orchids for wedding

The Queen is said to have personally requested orchids for her 1947 wedding bouquet, with three varieties being grown in Britain for the purpose. They are said to symbolise love, beauty and strength.

The original bouquet famously went missing after the Westminster Abbey wedding, and was recreated later for the wedding photographs.

Eight florists and flower suppliers have been commissioned to work on arrangements for the Westminster Abbey memorial service.
