A Perth couple has lost thousands of dollars after becoming close contacts of a COVID-19 case one day before their wedding, forcing them to cancel the nuptials.

Marissa Deniese and her fiancé were meant to get married on February 27 and were also celebrating her 50th birthday on the same day.

Perth couple Marissa Deniese and her fiance had their wedding cancelled one day before the big day, after they became close contacts of a positive case.

But just one day out, Ms Deniese’s mother told her an extended family member had tested positive to COVID-19.

Ms Deniese’s daughter, mum and niece were all close contacts and were now unable to attend the wedding.

Her daughter, who lives with her, then took a rapid antigen test which came back positive, meaning Ms Deniese and her partner were now also close contacts.

“We did a second one. Within seconds, it showed a positive result. I instantly knew what this meant, my partner and I wouldn’t be able to attend our wedding the following day,” she said.

“We were in shock and disbelief at what may be evolving, we drove her down to the Mount Hawthorn COVID drive-through clinic to get a third test.

“I knew when we got home, seeing my daughter so unwell and then sleeping again so early in the day, that the third test would also be positive and that we wouldn’t be able to attend our wedding and my 50th birthday the next day.

“We were trying to stay calm, however the reality of what was happening started to set in, and I became a mess.”
