“Four seasons of fun” is an ongoing collaboration between Castanet and Visit Penticton showcasing what Penticton has to offer all year round. Watch for it every Monday morning.

The countdown is on to a new year and there are plenty of ways to celebrate. Don’t delay reserving your spot at one of Penticton’s NYE festivities, they’re sure to fill up quickly!

Traditionally, Dec. 31 is a date often marked by couples getting engaged over a romantic, candlelit dinner by popping a bottle of sparkling wine and popping the big question. Why not take it up a notch this New Year’s Eve?

The Penticton Lakeside Resort and Conference Centre, already a popular wedding venue, is planning a pop-up NYE wedding with Paradox Events. Space is limited, but you can still register for this all-inclusive package.

Pop-up weddings on Dec. 31 are for up to 12 guests, and include expertly designed décor, the officiant, ceremony coordination, floral arrangements, a photographer, DJ, a sparkling toast and canape reception, and – of course – cake.

Weddings will have 90-minute time slots, and there are special room rates at the resort, plus optional add-ons.

Already hitched, or still waiting for someone to give you a ring? Forget about weddings, book a table at the Hooded Merganser Restaurant for yourself and your family and friends (and maybe your significant other) for a delectable seven-course dinner. Reservations begin at 5 p.m. and include a champagne toast, party favours, and entertainment by DJ Jamie Klucka. Make it a night and stay over.

Enjoy live music and a 3-course dinner (pre-ordering required), at the Barley Mill Brew Pub & Sports Bar to usher in 2023.

Dinner begins at 5 p.m. with a choice of appetizers and the main course, wrapping up with a dessert of Sticky Toffee Puddin’ Cake and vanilla ice cream. Performers are Don’t Speak (music tickets are extra, or can be purchased on their own), one of the Okanagan’s popular party bands, take the stage at 9 p.m.

For a laugh, plan to see comedian Herb Dixon, aka The Harley Guy, at Match Eatery as part of Train Wreck Comedy tour. Herb is a master sound impressionist, hence the Harley nickname, so you’ll be sure to have a light-hearted good time.

Meanwhile, Canada’s best Tragically Hip tribute act, The Hip Replacements, will be performing at Slackwater Brewing in downtown Penticton on New Year’s Eve with three sets planned for the evening. Tickets can be purchased online in advance to save yourself $10 instead of buying them at the door (opens at 7 p.m.). The party set to go on until 2 a.m.

For a spectacular view over the city and Okanagan Lake, reserve a table at the Restaurant at Poplar Grove Winery; early seating is available at 5 p.m., with a second seating at 7:30 p.m.

Musician Brent Tyler will be there to provide live ‘soulful guitar’ music while you enjoy canapes, Quiche Lorraine, then a choice of striploin or halibut, and a dessert of a Mole Spiced Chocolate Bar with a black lime marshmallow and pecan brittle.
