Kolkata: Private wedding venues in Kolkata have finally emerged from the Covid-induced stupor with back-to-back events on the same day, and bookings till 2023. The surge in bookings is not only for weddings and other social functions but also for those re-celebrating weddings and family events scrapped or scaled down in the past two years.
Aditya Moitra, general manager, P C Chandra Garden off EM Bypass said, “Covid has been bleeding us. It was a herculean effort even to maintain the property and venues. The guest restrictions were capped at 50 people, and there were multiple cancellations. In February when the restrictions eased, bookings started coming. People who had cancelled or rescheduled events are also booking in addition to planned ones.”
Topsia’s Mangalam Banquets sales manager Arshed Ahmed said, “During the pandemic restrictions, the situation was very bad due to cancellations and people falling sick. Now it is the reverse. We have bookings till 2023.” Kakoli Ghosh, sales coordinator of Park Street’s Middleton Chambers and Garden Banquets, said, “It was a very trying situation. Bookings got cancelled and were never rescheduled. The continuous closure led to job losses. The situation is a lot better now. We are managing double bookings per day. ”
Anup Kumar Gupta, owner of Emerald Banquets at Newtown, said: “I had to take loans to keep my business running. Now bookings are back. Though the budget of clients has gone down I’m glad we are no more in the bad phase.”
