5 Duke of Cornwall Dr. Markham ON [email protected]

The bride wore an ivory gown made for her by the dressmakers Messrs Reville at Hanover Square, using cloth of silver bought by Queen Mary in India, with flowers representing the British Empire embroidered onto the train. Eschewing tradition, she opted for a floral bridal wreath rather than a crown, in keeping with the style of the 1920s.

The eight aristocratic bridesmaids included a future queen amongst their number: Lady Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon, the future wife of King George VI and Queen Mother. There were also Mary’s cousins, Lady May and Lady Mary Cambridge, and Princess Maud of Fife, as well as Lady Diana Bridgeman, a first cousin once removed of Lascelles.

The couple were married for 25 years, until his death in 1947, going on to have two sons, George Lascelles (1923-2011) and the Hon Gerard Lascelles (1924-1998).
