London made holiday yesterday, for the Royal wedding. Not for many years past — certainly not since the war first cast its gloom upon the nation — have such scenes of popular enthusiasm been witnessed in the capital. They were evidence of the affection which is entertained for the Princess in the hearts of the people, and of the general satisfaction at a truly English marriage. They were symptomatic, also, perhaps, of the joy with which the end of a saddening chapter in the national history is welcomed, and of the hopes which are entertained of the dawn of a happier time now that the period of strain and anxiety appears to be closing.
