Pearce, who celebrated her 100th birthday May 7 with friends and family, said that living to be 100 was always something she wanted to do, but that it “wasn’t a matter of life or death.”
Pearce lived a “simple” home life and got married to her childhood friend.
“There’s no secret to living a long life,” she said. “Just live it and be nice to people.”
Before her next birthday, Pearce said she’s looking forward to taking a scenic drive and going shopping.
May 11 marked the 65th wedding anniversary of Gerdi and Tony Aarts. They met, unusually, at a cemetery for a mutual friend. It was love at first sight, with Gerdi falling for Tony’s wavy hair and Tony noticing how good-looking Gerdi was.
Both Gerdi and Tony had their own advice for a long and successful marriage.
“It’s all about give and take,” said Gerdi. “Don’t hold grudges.”
“Gerdi is a really good baker, so good food is important,” said Tony.
Gerdi and Tony are celebrating their anniversary with their family, including five children, 13 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
