Indore: Long-awaited relief from Covid-19 cases and pent-up demand has given a fresh lease of life to the hospitality sector with most marriage gardens booked over 90 per cent for summer weddings.
Booking enquiries for auspicious wedding mahurats falling in the months of April to June has surpassed bookings for the last two years, claimed owners of marriage gardens with most weddings hosting elaborate ceremonies.
After almost a wash out in pandemic, the drop in Covid-19 cases amid lifting of restrictions on ceremonies has raised expectations of marriage gardens reaching to a pre-pandemic business level.
Smit Suri, president, Federation of Hotel and Restaurant Association of India, Madhya Pradesh said, “The hospitality sector is reviving and we anticipate to reach to the pre pandemic levels. Elaborate celebrations are happening and marriage venues are getting encouraging responses.”
There are close to 100 marriage gardens in Indore and the wedding industry in Indore is estimated at close to Rs 200 crore, stakeholders from the industry claimed.
Hoteliers claimed that spending on weddings that had taken a sharp hit in the pandemic is gradually reviving with families inviting extended guests and hosting multiple functions.
Suri said, “Most marriage gardens are almost booked on wedding dates and now enquiries for the next winter season have started pouring in. There are lots of weddings happening this year due to pandemic enforced restrictions in the last two years.”
They said even the no auspicious dates in the summer months are booked as people got hitched in the past are throwing receptions for extended family and friends.
Though the increase in commodity prices, logistics and garments among others have stretched the budget for families by over 15 per cent, this may not impact the festivities, claimed industry players.
Utkarsh Singh, a senior executive handling marriages at a wedding garden said, “Expenses have gone up because there is a surge in almost everything be it food, band, DJ, housekeeping or catering. This has lifted the cost of hosting weddings but this may not impact bookings because demand is very high this season.” 0
