Hamilton’s 2 photo radar cameras out of service due to vandalism, says city

Hamilton’s two automated speed enforcement (ASE) cameras are on the sidelines after the mobile stations were vandalized last week, according to the city’s transportation operations. Since the cameras were deployed in early October, the units have been abused by vandals over a dozen times, says transportation manager Mike Field. “I would say about 15 times from, you know, anything from spray painting or covering the lenses to the latest thing that we saw on Lawrence Road, where someone broke into the actual cabinets and stole some components from inside,” Field said. Boeing’s troubled 737 MAX 8 jets can resume flying in Canadian airspace this week. Transport Canada deemed the grounded jets airworthy and said it will lift the ban on flying the jets on Wednesday, which will allow Canadian airlines to begin operating them once more. Y Drive Ptbo launches as Peterborough’s first ridesharing service

Competition is already heating up as another ridesharing program in Peterborough launched Thursday. Locally developed Y Drive Ptbo began service Thursday, one day ahead of the launch planned by Uride based out of Thunder Bay. Y Drive managing partner Rob Davidson says their service took a year and a half of developing. The company initially began as a designated driving service and has expanded roles, including food delivery, when the coronavirus pandemic began. “It’s been a long 18 months of development, testing, working with our insurance company and also with the city,” he said.
