SIU investigates weekend fatal crash on County Road 18 near Roseneath

The province’s Special Investigations Unit is investigating the circumstances surrounding a fatal crash in Northumberland County on Saturday night. According to the SIU, around 9:40 p.m., a Northumberland OPP officer was en route to a call driving eastbound on County Road 18 in the Roseneath/Alderville First Nation area when he observed a pickup truck “coming towards him” just east of Roseneath Landing Road. Ontario’s police watchdog, the Special Investigations Unit, said it’s interviewed three civilian witnesses and has completed a canvass of the area in East Gwillimbury, Ont., where a man who was involved with a stabbing was fatally shot on Saturday afternoon. A Dundas, Ont., woman has been arrested in connection with an incident that led to the fatal shooting of a man by Niagara Regional Police. Investigators say they were initially contacted about a suspected impaired driver in Niagara Falls on Tuesday afternoon and an hour later, the vehicle was located in Niagara-on-the-Lake. According to police, there was an “interaction” with a man at the scene near Line 3 and the Niagara Parkway, and officers ended up shooting him. An OPP officer who was injured during a police-involved shooting last month in the City of Kawartha Lakes remains in stable condition, police say. The Special Investigations Unit continues to investigate the Nov. 26 incident just east of Lindsay in which the SIU says a man was shot by police and a baby was found with a “fatal gunshot wound” inside the man’s pickup truck. Man shot by OPP in City of Kawartha Lakes dies week after incident that killed boy, 1: SIU

Ontario’s police watchdog says a man has died nearly a week after being shot by provincial police in an incident that also left his one-year-old son dead in the City of Kawartha Lakes, Ont.
