Some of the City of Winnipeg’s Open Streets active transportation routes are coming to the end of their roads after the long weekend. The 10 roadways were closed to vehicular traffic in the spring in an effort to encourage physical distancing and give Winnipeggers a safe way to get out of the house during the COVID-19 pandemic. An emerging development at the former Kapyong Barracks site in Winnipeg is generating huge interest from the public, according to developers. A webinar detailing the master plan for the area will take place Wednesday evening, and so far, close to 1,000 people have signed up to learn more about the long-awaited project. WINNIPEG – A new competition that aims to generate urban design ideas and implement the best one launched Thursday with the unveiling of 17 “celebrity chairs.” Chair Your Idea is soliciting proposals for urban design projects, with $30,000 available to fund the realization of the winning idea. It costs $25 and a white chair to enter; each idea must be presented in 140 characters or less (the length of a tweet).
