The accessories, and particularly the jewels, that a bride wears on her big day can be just as special as the wedding dress she chooses. This is because jewellery has the power to transform any look and it can also hold meaningful memories. Whichever piece you choose to wear on your big day will likely also be a special addition to your jewellery box that you will go on to wear for years, serving, each time that you put it on, as a beautiful reminder of your wedding day.

If you are on the lookout for that perfect piece of jewellery to finish off your bridal look, you are in luck because there have never been more beautiful options available. As the bridal industry has modernised in recent years, there has become less pressure to take on that one-size-fits-all approach when it comes to bridal fashion.

Even before the pandemic, many brides were turning away from traditional wedding dresses, choosing instead to embrace their personal style, whether that meant wearing something more modern or casual – and this trend was exasperated by the pandemic and the smaller weddings that took place. Add to this a greater awareness of sustainability and responsible shopping, and bridal fashion is looking very much more flexible than it once was.

“Brides are definitely becoming more adventurous with their jewellery choices,” Jess Kaye, co-founder of modern London bridal brand, The Own Studio tells me. We’re now seeing lots of bold earrings, layered necklaces and even pops of colour, which keeps the bridal look feeling fresh and modern. Freshwater pearls and battered gold are firm favourites as they create a beautiful statement but are still very timeless. We’re also seeing a lot of clean architectural pieces coming through which creates a contemporary and directional finish.”

How to decide what exactly will work with your bridal look?

“The key thing is for your jewellery to work harmoniously with the rest of your outfit,” says The Own Studio co-founder Rosie Williams. “Some people find it tricky to visualise the whole look together so we always recommend putting your pieces together on a mood board to see if it works.”

“For example, if you’re going for a jewelled shoe, you might want to pull this through into your earrings and find something that complements, rather than going for contrasting gold jewellery or a big statement earring. You will need to think about how you want your hair too as this will affect the earrings you choose. Ask the designer making your wedding outfit for a swatch of the fabric as this can help reassure you when choosing your accessories that it will work well together.”

Below, follow our guide to the most beautiful jewels out there fit for a wedding day, from traditional to contemporary brands.

Rings

Although your engagement and wedding rings will of course be taking centre stage on this occasion, don’t be afraid to add a little more sparkle. We love the idea of stacking various delicate rings together for added elegance, or opting for a statement piece like a cocktail ring. Above, we have rounded up some beautiful pieces from the likes of Harry Winston, Monica Vinader and Tiffany & Co, while Scandinavian jewellery designer Sophie Bille Brahe’s new bridal collection – which is inspired by love letters – has also caught our eye.

Earrings

Earrings are a great way to add a personal feel to your bridal ensemble, as well as to complement your beauty look. Whether you’re opting for a natural glowing feel with a pared-back hairstyle, or something a little more glam with bouncy curls, selecting the right earrings is key.

Choose between dainty little studs that catch the light effortlessly a la Chanel and De Beers or a more statement pair from Mateo and Swarovski. Just as many brides have a day and evening dress, why not apply the same attitude to your jewels? The evening celebrations are a great opportunity to go all out.

Necklaces

Perhaps you’re after something more simple to wear alongside a special family heirloom, so opting for Vrai’s dainty barely-there look is the perfect candidate. If you regularly wear gold in your day to day, Cartier’s Love necklace couldn’t be more fitting for a wedding celebration. Or, you might want to mix things up entirely with Completedworks’ statement pearl choker, strung with white freshwater pearls and pear-cut crystals.

Don’t forget to consider more responsible options too – and we love the idea of embracing vintage jewellery on your wedding day. This beautiful pre-owned Hermés necklace is a great way to do so, while lab-grown diamond brands are also great for more sustainable choices.

Bracelets

Whether you’re a fan of delicate and dainty bracelets or love nothing more than a chunky statement piece, what you choose to wear on your wedding day should reflect your everyday style.

That being said, don’t be afraid combine two styles by mixing it up and stacking your arm candy – Kimaï’s delicate diamond bracelet and Van Cleef & Arpels’ timeless Alhambra style make the perfect pairing in our eyes.
