Happy couples from Cumbria and beyond are invited to a wedding fayre at Kendal’s The Venue – Cumbria’s newest wedding space – later this month.

Nextt to The Bowness Bay Brewery in Kendal, The Venue offers a laid-back, unconventional wedding space.

It achieves an eclectic mix of Scandi-chic and urban low-key under the expansive awning of an indoor tipi, and unexpectedly located in the arts-inspired, post-industrial, design-hub area of the pretty market town of Kendal.

Sounds mad? Well it is a bit bonkers – but then so is putting a wedding space right next to a brewery. Or is it?

This intriguing space will welcome couples and their friends and families from 11am to 4pm on Sunday, March 20, to not only experience The Venue itself, but also meet 20 leading North West wedding partners who share this quirky company’s vision.

From dresses, hair and make-up to stationery, music and food, organisers and owners Richard and Kim Husbands are keen to inspire and help brides and grooms-to-be in planning their celebrations.

Richard said: “Ten years ago, my wife and I founded Bowness Bay Brewing. In that time we’ve brewed beer, created festivals, run music events and expanded our range of products. But where do all of those things come into their own? It occurred to us that they all feature heavily at a really brilliant wedding.

“When we had the opportunity of opening a town centre wedding venue with a twist, we jumped at it.”

The result is welcomingly unexpected: a greenery chandelier, wood cladding and fairy lights complemented by space for dancing, booths for seating and artwork from local artists Kate Lloyd‐Philips and Hannah Fox.

Work – and life-partner – Kim added: “No-one would guess from looking at this building outside that we’ve managed to create this fantastic interior. Everyone who comes through the doors is bowled over by how it looks and how relaxed and friendly it feels.”

The pandemic has undoubtedly wreaked havoc on both betrothed couples and the wider wedding industry. Many wedding venues are booked out for months, sometimes up to two years ahead, trying to honour pre-pandemic promises made to engaged couples up and down the country.

As Cumbria’s newest wedding space, The Venue has everything, quite literally, on tap. From the celebratory drinks from the brewery next door to some of Kendal’s best caterers; from town centre transport to award-winning accommodation for friends and family just a stone’s throw away.

Suitable for up to 150 guests with outside space also available, The Venue has availability for 2022 and is looking forward to welcoming couples to their first wedding fayre on Sunday March 20.

Entry is free but pre-book tickets online here
