news, local-news,

Brides across Tasmania were tossing their bouquets in droves during a busy summer for wedding planners. Marriage numbers at the beginning of the pandemic plummeted, with 2020 ABS statistics showing a 30.6 per cent decrease from 2019. However, wedding planner Bek Burrows said it had been a busy summer. “We’ve had a lot of new bookings, but we’ve also had a lot of postponed weddings going ahead over the beginning of this season,” she said Ms Burrows said the two wedding businesses she owned with her husband Paul were initially hit hard. “It affected us greatly in 2020 when borders were closed,” she said. “But now they are open inquiries have gone through the roof.” IN OTHER NEWS Ms Burrows said she specialised in destination weddings and elopements. “95 per cent of our couples are interstate and we were hit hard,” she said. “We are thankful things are now picking-up now that borders are open.” Ms Burrows said she is now doing weddings all year round. “It typically was November through to April, that used to be our busiest time,” she said. “But we’ve found that a lot of the properties we’re working with are doing winter weddings as well as spring.” Marriage celebrant Jason Betts said he is expecting 2022 to be his busiest year since beginning in 1999. “For this year I have already got four lined-up, and I know there’ll be more in November,” he said. “For me to have four bookings at this time of year, probably means I’ll be doing eight.” Our journalists work hard to provide local, up-to-date news to the community.
