Arts & Letters has launched Zola’s new work around the Respect for Marriage Act, by placing a full page ad in the Washington Post that urges senators to vote to pass the law. The ad ran on the back page of the newspaper on Tuesday, September 13th.

Marriage equality is an urgent matter close to all of our hearts. When the US Supreme Court recently called this right into question, Zola was horrified, and starkly reminded that same-sex and interracial marriage are still only upheld by two legal rulings that can be challenged — and reversed — at any time.

A statement from Zola says: “We’re a wedding company, but we’re also a group of 280 individuals who, along with the vast majority of the American public, deeply believe that all couples regardless of sexuality, race, religion, ethnicity, or background, should be able to choose and marry each other. We were aghast when the Supreme Court recently called this into question, and we cannot let decades of progress be set back. “

Zola co-founder and CEO, Shan-Lyn Ma says: “As people who work everyday to support couples in love, we have to stand up when love & marriage is on the line. We cannot go backwards. We’re calling on the U.S. Senate to pass the Respect for Marriage Act to protect marriage equality. We hope our political leaders will join us for this momentous occasion.”

Zola has designed a wedding invite, created in partnership with Arts & Letters, for elected officials in the US Senate to enshrine marriage equality into law, and safeguard an institution that should be guaranteed always and forever for same-sex and interracial couples after decades fighting for their right to love as equals. Zola is also popping one in the mail for every Senator on the fence.

Zola will also be posting the wedding invite on its social feed, and inviting the brand’s community to share what marriage really means. From the right to a forever love to the right to share financial benefits and burdens, marriage means so much to so many. That’s what’s really at stake.

For those who want to get involved further, Zola is launching a website www.zola.com/votemarriageequality with more info on ways to support this critical issue. And, in lieu of a traditional gift, Zola will be making a donation to the ACLU Foundation in support of the millions of couples who deserve for their right to marriage to be protected, not threatened, and recognised under the law.
