An expensive wedding is more likely to end in a quick divorce, research suggests

My sister’s wedding in 1981 was attended by all our large family but gift expectations were modest (“Want to stay married? Have a cheap wedding”, News, last week). Unlike today, young couples didn’t expect guests to spend a fortune.
I particularly like their requests for dishcloths and pan scrubs, 13-amp plugs and “lavatory cleaning set — green”. I’m happy to say Anne and David are still together after more than 40 years and the proud owners of every item on the list.
