Over the course of Avril Lavigne’s career, she’s learned exactly how she likes her makeup done and she says that’s why she chooses to do it herself. Plus, she can do it pretty fast, which is important to her as she hates sitting in the makeup chair.

“I just can’t stand people doing my makeup, because I know how I like it. If anything, I do half of it or let them touch me up. No one can do it right. Plus, I can’t sit in a chair for an hour while someone’s doing my makeup. It drives me nuts, especially when I can do my smoky eye in two minutes,” Avril recently told Allure.

Meghan Markle may have married into the royal family, but she reportedly does her own makeup a lot of the time! While Meghan’s longtime makeup artist Daniel Martin does step in for important occasions, like her wedding, she often does it herself for other appearances.

“She just likes doing her own makeup…Meghan has her makeup done for some special occasions but likes to do it herself,” a source told Us Weekly.

Jameela Jamil has said that she doesn’t have a makeup artist or a stylist because she prefers to get things done herself. In addition to award show looks, Jameela says she also did her own makeup on the set of The Good Place because getting to set hours in advance to get ready was exhausting.

“Halfway through season one, I realized that the [hair and makeup artists] were getting in at like 4:45 or 4:30 in the morning. Sometimes 4:15. I realized we had an hour and 45 minutes in hair and makeup, and I just sort of went to the producers of The Good Place and was like, ‘How ugly do you think I am? There’s no prosthetics on me.’ I need half an hour in hair and makeup? I’ll do my own makeup. And so I did my own makeup for the show and someone else did my hair. I got the same amount of time for hair and makeup as the boys. Because I can’t be funny when I’m tired,” Jameela told E!

Carrie Underwood says that when she’s on tour, she doesn’t have a glam squad and actually does both her hair and makeup before taking the stage.

“I do my own hair and makeup when I’m touring, and that’s something I always loved. It’s quiet on my bus, and being able to put on my makeup and do my hair is almost therapeutic. I know that sounds kind of weird, but it really is! I love makeup, and I like the time I get to spend doing it, so it’s nice to get that time for myself to play with new things,” Carrie told InStyle

Lady Gaga

Lady Gaga has always had a clear passion for makeup and while she often collaborates with her makeup artist Sarah Tanno, she does work on her own looks when she’s not making a major appearance.

“She’s always pretty good with her signature black liner, her mascara, and her lip, but she’s never somebody that would dig through an eye shadow drawer; it’s just not her thing,” Sarah once said

Diane Kruger

Diane Kruger worked with a lot of great makeup artists as a young model and says she picked up so much from them that she’s able to do her own makeup for many red carpet events.

“I was always surrounded by great makeup artists when I was modeling and learned a lot from them. I try to not overdo it and let the dress do all the talking. I’m really not into contouring and heavy foundation, but I have a pretty thick brow naturally and find that it gives me a lot of character,” she said during an interview with Violet Grey.

Michelle Obama

While serving as First Lady, Michelle Obama had so many appearances that it became difficult for her to have a makeup artist on every occasion. Her usual makeup artist Ingrid Grimes-Myles ended up teaching her some looks that Michelle could recreated for many public outings.

“Early on, I taught her how to do a clean media face, and to this day, she is very competent in accomplishing this. Mrs. Obama could not have a makeup artist for all of her many scheduled appearances,” Ingrid told Chicago Mag.

“I like doing my own makeup and hair for events. I think it’s fun,” Blake told The Cut

Sophia Bush

Sophia Bush does her own makeup “98 percent of the time.” She says that she’s learned how to do it quickly and when it comes to a red carpet look, she’s got plenty of makeup to make it happen at home.

“Honestly I don’t like to spend that long. I always joke that I have a five-minute face routine. It’s really fast, I have a couple of things I like and that’s it. I own a ton of makeup and if it’s a red carpet event I can do a full-on look, I think it’s fun. But my day to day is super simple. I just feel comfortable that way,” Sophia told People

Kate Middleton

Like Meghan Markle, Kate Middleton also almost always does her own makeup. It’s even rumored that The Duchess did her own makeup on her wedding day! After after a series of private lessons with makeup artist Arabella Preston, Kate reportedly decided she would feel her best doing it herself.

“She’s had about three or four lessons with Kate at her private flat in Chelsea and has also gone, very privately to Clarence House. Arabella was suppose to be coming on the day as well but now she isn’t, because Kate’s comfortable and confident in doing it herself,”  wedding planner Mark Niemierko told People

Lili Reinhart has had a longtime passion for makeup, learning the ins and outs of the craft by watching YouTube videos as a teenager. Lili has become so good at it that she’s ended up up doing her makeup for a lot of her onscreen roles like in Riverdale and Hustlers.

“I found it very therapeutic to do in the morning. There are a lot of trailer people everywhere and I found it easy to zone out [while doing my makeup]. I think putting a soft sponge to my face and putting foundation on became very soothing. I kind of found that therapy again in doing my makeup on set,” Lili told Popsugar
