The Sims 4 has had its share problems since launch, but the broken release of My Wedding Stories has finally pushed some to stop playing the game.

The Sims 4‘s latest Game Pack is one that was meant to be fun and full of bliss and moments to remember. Instead, what players got was more of a tragedy, with brides abandoning their beaus at the altar, guests not cooperating and wedding lots that don’t work. The Sims 4: My Wedding Stories looked to be a disaster from its first live stream, which showcased some of the pack’s bugs, and these issues were not addressed upon release. This has caused many players to rethink their Sims 4 purchases, with some walking away from the game entirely.

Before My Wedding Stories, Sims would get married in an impromptu wedding on the spot. It was up to players to throw pre-wedding parties using the usual party mechanics. The pack was supposed to make weddings grander by allowing fun bachelor and bachelorette parties, ceremonies and afterparties to take place, with new build and Create-a-Sim options. However, what players got was just another regular party option, the ability to make a group of Sims sit and a lot of bugs.

Sims 4 Wedding Stories live stream gone wrong

When the pack was announced, players were looking forward to a fantastic new Sims experience, complete with grand weddings for their Sims. However, when the pack debuted on a live stream, it became clear that it wasn’t working. The majority of the hour-long stream showed regular Sims 4 gameplay in a new neighborhood, while the main event was only 10 minutes and had major issues. The new parties didn’t have anything new about them, the wedding itself had to be completely micromanaged, the bride tried to leave after walking down the aisle and guests hovered in front of the buffet like vultures instead of eating at tables. The CAS items, new objects and neighborhood were nice, but the gameplay itself was a disaster.

For longtime Sims 4 players, this has become the norm, with many of the game’s expansions, Game Packs and Kits launching with similar issues. While players celebrate the new items, gameplay changes are either broken or non-existent. Some add-ons have remained busted for years after release, making them near-impossible to play. Dine Out still has consistent issues with Sims actually dining, Sims can’t do laundry with the Laundry Day Stuff Pack and Eco Lifestyle‘s world has severe graphical glitches. Even with numerous expansions and Game Packs, many long-time fans of the series have criticized the game for feeling shallow and buggy. Now, after seven-and-a-half years of issues, many fans are sick of enough of it to abandon the game altogether.

A Sims 4 dream marriage

Those who purchased Wedding Stories found a host of new problems as well. Wedding venue lots couldn’t actually hold weddings, and some couples would walk through objects and guests on their way to the altar. While those who only cared about the new items and neighborhood were satisfied, those who wanted a richer experience were left disappointed. It speaks volumes about the state of the game, as a quick glance, as looking at the biggest Sims content creators reveals that many play the game solely for its build mode, not the life simulation gameplay.

The broken release of  My Wedding Stories is the final straw for many Sims 4 players who have been unhappy with the game for a while, as well as some who have held on to hope that things will improve. EA has been keeping players on the hook with promises of new content while failing to deliver fixes that would improve the overall game. The Sims community has long been divided on the game, with some defending The Sims 4 and othering saying the game has too many issues to bother playing. However, when even some of the game’s biggest advocates are moving into the latter camp, it’s clear EA’s lack of support in fixing broken gameplay is becoming a more serious problem for The Sims 4 as a whole.
