Couple argue over a wedding dress

So, as the story goes, the Reddit user was invited to his colleague’s wedding and he wanted to take his then-girlfriend as his plus one.

When he went to pick her up, he saw her wearing an “off-white” dress. On a side note, he found her “beautiful” in the outfit.

However, he asked her to change into anything other than white as popular belief holds that only the bride wears white at a wedding.

The girlfriend, however, dismissed it saying, ” it was an outdated tradition about women and virginity”. Apparently, when her friends got married, everyone wore white.

When the boyfriend insisted on her changing into another color, the girl got upset and called his behavior “abusive”.

That didn’t sit well with the man and he asked her to get off his car and went to the wedding all by himself. He even turned his phone off to stop the woman from trying to talk it out.

Man breaks up with his girlfriend

The story continues…

After attending the wedding, the boyfriend was glad to know that he didn’t bring his girlfriend in white as no woman at the ceremony wore the color other than the bride.

He further alleges that his girlfriend called him to apologize and it was a “pretty good talk”. But, he wasn’t willing to have her over.

“She asked if she could come over, and I said no and that it would be best for us to go our separate ways. She got upset and asked why I wouldn’t even try to work it out,” he revealed.

He concluded by writing: “I’m pretty sad about it, she really made me feel happy but as many of you have commented – if this was our first disagreement and she called me abusive how would future disagreements look?

“I was hurt, but if she did think I was being abusive, it would be the right thing to do, and if she did not think I was being abusive and said it anyways I would not want to be with her.”

Reddit user praised for his story

Going by the comments shared under Mallvar’s post, many of them have sided with him for standing his ground about the white dress.

“Your GF should have known better. Unless you KNOW the couple AND it’s a request, you don’t wear white. She also overreacted and you did the right thing by asking her to not go and to get out of your car,” wrote one.

A second user said: “Congratulations on your newfound freedom and drama-free life; I hope you find someone better out there”

“She overreacted because she 100% KNEW the rule,” wrote another

“Oh that must have been difficult but I’m glad you decided to end it. Sometimes things happen that really show someone’s true character. This was one of them. Her true self really comes out when she doesn’t get what she wants.,” said another Reddit user.
